HO Scale Model Railroad

The Freelance Adirondack, Susquehanna & Chenango Valley Railroad (ASCV) is a representation of four railway eras and four interchanging rail lines, joined through the art of modeling. A large chunk of Central New York State is represented, spawning from the majestic Adirondack Mountains all the way to the Chenango River Valley and the Susquehanna River watershed.

To the northern-most part of the layout, running between the points of Remsen, NY and Utica, NY is the Adirondack portion of the ASCV: the Adirondack Scenic Railroad. This part will be set in present-day and features second-generation MLW and EMD diesel locomotives with historic 1950's passenger cars. Also of interest is the line's New York Central heritage and in 1980 having been the only rail link between the Mohawk Valley and Lake Placid, NY for the Winter Olympics.

At the southern terminus of the Adirondack section of the railroad stands Utica, NY and the next part of the layout: CSX Transportation's Mohawk Subdivision. Also set in present-day, this double-track freight railroad will feature long, high-priority trains being pulled by some of the most powerful EMD and GE diesel locomotives in production today. As an occasional treat, some specialty locomotives such as Norfolk Southern's First Responders' tribute locomotive or Union Pacific's Boy Scouts anniversary locomotive will pass through. Amtrak will share this trackage with CSX as there are daily passenger trains that stop in Utica.

Utica is a bustling hub of rail transportation and marks the northern starting point of the southern part of the ASCV. The 1980's New York, Susquehanna & Western (NYS&W) and 1950's New York, Ontario & Western (NYO&W) both originate there and head south, traversing a street-running section of Schuyler Street and moving through the lush New York farmland outside of the city. In the village of Sangerfield, NY (which will double as Hamilton, NY) there will be feed mills t switch out and the site of the Great Chocolate Wreck of 1957 will be recreated. From there the tracks will move south to the Chenango Valley where a reverse loop will turn the trains around to head back north.
